He is at work
The doctrine of the Trinity is one that has been foundational for the church for ages. Although the word “Trinity” does not appear in the scriptures, the names; Father, Holy Spirit, & Son do appear numerous times and state that the three function as one.
Durst uses this book as a guide to how the Trinitarian doctrine is seen at work in the scriptures, preferably the New Testament. This book hits the nail on three levels: Historical, Theological & Practical. There is simply no page left unturned when it comes to evidence of the Trinity at work.
There are some critics who say that Durst does leave some items on the table to remain yet convinced. Perhaps so, but let’s keep in mind that not everyone will always agree on the Trinity, specifically the work of the Holy Spirit.
With that aside, this resource still remains a strong portrait of the nature of God at work in three persons/functions. Durst provides a strong case for the work of the Trinity in the New Testament as a foundational doctrine, not one that was later incorporated into the church.
This is a fascinating read none the less.
